Every plan we have is made with one ultimate goal in mind: Ensuring our students are successful. By doing so, we unlock the greatest potential for the impact they can make with their careers and lives. So we focus in every way on helping our students fulfill their dreams so they can ultimately push our institution, our communities, and our nation beyond where they all respectively are now.

Maximizing the Educational Experience

We’re making it our aim to raise $113 million to improve the undergraduate experience. In addition, we will seek $2 million to provide more student-led research opportunities as well as find alternatives to traditional student research.

We will also seek $6 million for experiential learning alternatives like our Corporate Internship Program. Doing so will provide scholarships for internships and mini-scholarships funded by corporate partners to provide more students with more experiences prior to graduation so they can enter their careers ready to make a difference from day one.

  • 42% of ODU students receive Pell Grants

    which are awarded only to students who display exceptional financial need. This is a higher percentage than any other public doctoral institution in Virginia.

  • 4th in the country and in the top 50 worldwide

    for reducing inequities (Times Higher Education’s World Rankings, 2021).

  • Top U.S. News and World Reports named ODU

    as one of its Top Performers on Social Mobility (2020).

  • 1 out of 4 ODU bachelor’s recipients

    were the first in their family to receive a degree in 2021.

  • ODU was named a top 15 university in the country

    for African American student success by Education Trust.
